How to Find the Right Part Number for Your ATV, Snowmobile or Watercraft
By the Groupe Contant Team · Published October 17, 2026

Quick Answer
How do you find the right part number?
Note the year, the exact model and ideally the VIN (vehicle identification number), then look the part up in the manufacturer's online parts catalogue, where diagrams show each part with its number. You can also read the number off the old part. Once you have it, check its availability at our locations on our parts page; if you're unsure, our parts team can confirm.
The same part can change from one year to the next, or even between two versions of the same model. The part number is the surest way to get exactly what you need the first time.
This guide explains what information to have ready, how to use manufacturer catalogues, what to do with a superseded number, and how to then check availability at Groupe Contant.
1. Have Your Vehicle Information Ready
- The model year and exact model (including the trim or package, for example XT, Limited, X mr).
- The VIN (vehicle identification number), which confirms the exact configuration. Its location varies by vehicle: check the owner's manual.
- If possible, the model number shown on your purchase documents or the vehicle's label.
2. Look It Up in the Manufacturer's Catalogue
Manufacturers publish online parts catalogues with exploded views (diagrams): you select your vehicle, then the section (engine, brakes, suspension, body…), and each part in the diagram carries a reference number that points to the part number.
Our parts page gives access to the BRP (Can-Am, Sea-Doo, Ski-Doo, Lynx), KTM and Honda catalogues. Write down the full number without leaving out any characters.
3. Read the Number off the Old Part
Many parts carry their number, engraved, moulded or on a label. It's a good way to confirm what you found in the catalogue, especially if the original part was already replaced in the past.
Note: on some parts, the visible number isn't necessarily the ordering number. If in doubt, bring the part or a photo to our parts counter.
4. Superseded Part Numbers
Manufacturers sometimes replace a part with a revised version that carries a new number. The old number is then called "superseded": it can no longer be ordered, but points to the new one.
If you're looking up an old number, our availability lookup shows the number that replaces it for some brands, such as KTM. Otherwise, our parts team can track down the match.
5. Check Availability and Request the Part
- On our parts page, enter the number in the "Check availability" tool to see the stock level at each of our 5 locations.
- If the part is offered in our parts & accessories store, add it to your cart and send a pickup request; payment is made in store.
- If it isn't in stock, fill out the parts request form on the same page and our team will get back to you.
