How to Prepare Your Sea-Doo for Winter Storage
By the Groupe Contant Team · Published August 27, 2026

Quick Answer
How do you prepare your Sea-Doo for winter storage?
Flush the exhaust system with fresh water to neutralize salt and residue (connect a garden hose to the connector at the rear, port side), dry the system with compressed air until no more water comes out of the impeller, do a full oil change with a filter replacement, and apply fogging oil to protect metal parts against moisture and corrosion during storage.
Unlike an ATV, a personal watercraft has been in direct contact with water — fresh or salt — all season, which makes flushing the exhaust system an absolutely essential step before storage, on top of the usual mechanical steps.
This guide follows BRP's own official recommended steps to properly winterize a Sea-Doo, to avoid corrosion and unpleasant surprises come spring.
BRP's Official Winterization Checklist
- Flush the exhaust system — connect a garden hose to the connector at the rear (port side of the stern) to flush with fresh water and neutralize the corrosive effects of salt and other residue, even if you only ride in fresh water.
- Dry with compressed air — after flushing, send compressed air through the connector until no more water comes out of the impeller, to prevent residual water from freezing.
- Full oil change — drain the oil and replace the filter; used oil contains contaminants that can damage the engine over extended storage.
- Fogging oil — creates a protective barrier on internal metal parts against moisture and corrosion over winter.
- Battery on a maintainer — as with any motorized vehicle, simply disconnecting it isn't enough; a trickle charger prevents a full discharge.
- Sheltered storage — in a dry space, ideally on a trailer or a proper stand, away from direct ground moisture.
