2027 Can-Am Spyder RT vs. Harley-Davidson Tri Glide Ultra: Comparison

Quick Answer

Spyder RT or Harley Tri Glide: what's the difference?

The 2027 Spyder RT has two wheels in front and one in back, a 115 hp Rotax 1330 ACE engine, a 6-speed semi-automatic gearbox, dynamic power steering, and stability control; it weighs 449 to 464 kg dry depending on the trim. The Tri Glide Ultra has one wheel in front and two in back, a 1,868 cc Milwaukee-Eight 114 V-twin with more low-rpm torque (163 Nm at 2,500 rpm), a manual-clutch gearbox, and 561 kg in running order. The Spyder focuses on ease of riding and technology; the Tri Glide on V-twin character and traditional touring style.

The Can-Am Spyder RT and the Harley-Davidson Tri Glide Ultra are both two-up, 3-wheel touring machines, but they're built very differently: the Spyder puts two wheels up front (a Y layout), while the Tri Glide keeps the classic trike layout with two wheels in the back.

This comparison relies only on the manufacturers' spec sheets: BRP's 2027 model-year data for the Spyder RT, and Harley-Davidson's Canadian spec page for the Tri Glide Ultra (2025 model year, the latest Harley lists).

A Note on the Numbers

The weights don't compare directly: BRP publishes a dry weight (no fuel or fluids), Harley-Davidson a running-order weight (fully fuelled). The gap is still significant even allowing for a full tank.

The Spyder makes more horsepower, but at high rpm; the Tri Glide's V-twin makes more torque, and much lower in the rev range. They're two different ways to accelerate: the Spyder wants to rev, the Tri Glide pulls from low down.

Why Choose the Spyder RT

  • Semi-automatic gearbox — no clutch lever, shifting by thumb, and reverse built in.
  • Dynamic power steering and stability control — standard on every 2027 RT trim.
  • Lighter and more powerful according to the manufacturers' spec sheets.
  • 10.25 in. touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, heated grips, cruise control, and an electric windshield as standard.
  • Three trims: RT, RT Limited, and RT Sea-to-Sky (heated seats and 177 L of storage on the last two).

Why Choose the Tri Glide Ultra

  • The character of a big Harley-Davidson V-twin, with plenty of torque from 2,500 rpm.
  • The classic trike layout, with two wheels in the back.
  • More storage than the base Spyder RT (190 L).
  • A slightly lower seat (735 mm).
