The early days of Contant

The story of Contant began humbly in the 1940s, with a small company whose rustic style stood in stark contrast to the modern facilities we know today. Even back then, passion was at the heart of everything: the very first building was constructed using Ski-Doo delivery crates. It’s safe to say that Ski-Doo has always run through Contant’s veins.

Key milestones in growth

Over the years, several milestones have shaped the company’s growth. One of the most significant came in 1993, when Contant became the largest BRP vehicle dealer in Canada. A vintage photo commemorates this achievement, featuring Pierre Beaudoin, Gérard Contant, and Anthony Kalhok. The evolution of the Contant logo reflects the expansion toward Laval, Mirabel, and Ste-Agathe—two new “sister” locations that helped solidify the company’s presence in the region.

Traditions that shaped the brand

Activities and traditions have also played a major role in Contant’s development. Among them, the annual Open House remains a flagship event, eagerly awaited year after year. Ski-Doo rides, just as popular now as they were then, are among the most cherished memories shared by customers and staff. The Contant snowmobile car, a true mechanical toy, drew plenty of attention at various events—and even the kids had a blast riding around the parking lot.

An evolving team and environment

Over time, the buildings and teams have evolved greatly. The showroom, entrance, and service area eventually required a second floor to keep up with growing demand. Team photos from Laval to Mirabel highlight the pride and unity that have always driven Contant forward.

Major expansions and today’s Contant

Major expansions marked the 2000s: the opening of Mirabel in 2008, followed by its expansion in 2010, then the addition of 26,000 square feet in 2015. In Ste-Agathe, the open-concept layout and second floor filled with new and pre-owned vehicles offer a truly enjoyable customer experience. Today, Contant operates four dealerships: Laval, Mirabel, Ste-Agathe, and Vaudreuil—the latter currently undergoing renovations to deliver an even more modern environment.
