2027 Ski-Doo Summit vs. Freeride: Which Mountain Sled to Choose?
By the Groupe Contant Team · Published October 23, 2026

Quick Answer
Summit or Freeride: what's the difference?
Both are Ski-Doo deep-snow sleds on the REV Gen5 platform, with the 850 E-TEC (165 hp) or 850 E-TEC Turbo R (180 hp up to 8,000 ft.) engine. The Summit is a five-trim line (Expert, X, Edge, Adrenaline and HCE) with a 16 in. track (15 in. on the HCE), 154 or 165 in. frames (146 in. also on the Adrenaline) and a 32 to 36 in. ski stance depending on the trim. The Freeride is a single trim, described by BRP as a freestyle sled, with a 15 in. track, 146, 147 or 154 in. frames, KYB PRO 40 EA-3 shocks front, centre and rear, and a 90 mm riser. The Summit targets mountains and powder; the Freeride, riders who want to jump and push limits off-trail.
The Summit and the Freeride are Ski-Doo's two deep-snow sleds. They share the REV Gen5 platform, RAS 3 front suspension, a tMotion rear suspension with 270 mm (10.6 in.) of travel, and the same 850 E-TEC engines. But BRP doesn't present them the same way: the Summit is a family of models covering different mountain riding styles, the Freeride a freestyle sled "born to go big".
This comparison relies only on BRP's 2027 model-year data for dealers. Several Summit figures vary by trim: we name the trim whenever that's the case.

The Main Differences
- Lineup — The Summit comes in five trims: Expert, X, Edge, Adrenaline and HCE (Hill Climb Edition, built to Ski-Doo X-Team race specifications). The Freeride is offered as a single trim.
- Track — 16 in. track on the Summit (15 in. on the HCE), in 154 or 165 in. (146 in. also on the Adrenaline, 154 in. only on the HCE), with 2.5 or 3.0 in. lugs. 15 in. track on the Freeride, in 146, 147 or 154 in., with 2.5 or 3.0 in. lugs; BRP presents the 147 x 3.0 in. track as a first from the factory.
- Suspension — KYB PRO 40 EA-3 shocks front, centre and rear on the Freeride and the Summit HCE. The other Summit trims use KYB 36, 36 Plus or PRO 36 EA-3 (Summit Expert) depending on the trim.
- Cockpit — 90 mm riser and a handlebar with steering pad on the Freeride (like the Summit HCE); 120 mm riser and a handlebar with grab handle on the Summit Expert, X, Edge and Adrenaline.
- Ski stance — The narrowest is the Summit Expert's: 813 mm (32 in.). BRP lists an adjustable 34 in. on the Summit X and Edge, and an adjustable 36 in. on the HCE.
Why Choose the Summit
The Summit lets you pick a trim to match your mountain riding style. BRP describes the Summit Expert as built for tight technical terrain, with its 32 in. stance and aluminum A-arms; the Summit X and Adrenaline focus on low weight, with a shortened tunnel, a compact deep-snow seat and FlexEdge tracks. The Summit X has the lowest dry weight in this comparison: 428 lb with the 850 E-TEC and a 154 in. frame.
The 165 in. frames, offered on the Summit Expert, X, Edge and Adrenaline, put more track on the snow in powder. Every Summit has high-altitude calibration; the Summit Expert and X are also offered with sea-level calibration, and they're the two trims offered with the 10.25 in. touchscreen with BRP Connect and built-in GPS. The Adrenaline is the only Summit offered with the 600RR E-TEC engine (130 hp).
Why Choose the Freeride
BRP presents the Freeride as a breed apart, made for off-trail freestyle riding, with rugged suspension. Like the Summit X and Adrenaline, it has a shortened tunnel and short heat exchanger, but with KYB PRO 40 EA-3 shocks throughout, tMotion L/O coil-over rear suspension and Pilot DS 4 skis.
Its 15 in. track (versus 16 in. on most Summit trims) and lower riser (90 mm) set it apart. It's offered with sea-level or high-altitude calibration, and with the 10.25 in. touchscreen or the 4.5 in. digital display. Its dry weights range from 434 to 452 lb depending on engine and track.
